Bringing the community of energy research data management together
The 2nd NFDI4Energy Conference took place from March 25 to March 27, 2025, at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), bringing together researchers, practitioners, and experts from the energy data management community. This year’s conference fostered exchange, new collaborations, and critical reflections on the energy sector’s management, sharing, and utilization of research data.
The event started with a series of hands-on workshops on simulation software metadata, the Open Energy Ontology, and the SOMMER project, followed by a series of presentations. Notable highlights included the Market of Consortia, where members from Text+, KonsortSWD, NFDI4Earth, Berd@NFDI, NFDI-MatWerk, NFDI4ING and FAIRmat participated, fostering opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The day concluded with a keynote speech on data literacy by Peter Pelz and a memorable dinner at the Karlsruhe Castle.
On Day 2, attendees participated in parallel sessions discussing non-technical requirements for FAIR, energy system modeling, data availability, and FAIR infrastructure. The poster session allowed for informal exchanges on various topics ranging from sectoral modeling to open science practices. The conference wrapped up with reflections on the current status and future direction of the consortium and the broader community.
The event showcased significant progress since the previous conference, and the team behind NFDI4Energy expresses deep gratitude to all participants, speakers, and partners for their contributions to the success of the conference. The organizers of the conference had the impression that the participants left the conference energized and inspired, ready to apply new insights and collaborations in their respective fields. We happily look back on this event and are already excited about the 3rd NFDI4Energy Conference next year, which will take place in Aachen.
