Our Governance Structure
NFDI4Energy Steering Committee (SC)
The Steering Committee (SC) contains all institutions and corresponding representatives (co-spokespersons) that were originally funded within NFDI4Energy since its beginning in 2023. In their two annual meetings, the SC discusses the progress of NFDI4Energy and relevant topics for the further development of NFDI4Energy and its community with the KgS. In addition, SC discusses the finance flows within NFDI4Energy, reported by the Coordination Office.
NFDI4Energy in the NFDI association (KgS)
NFDI4Energy is formally organized as consortium within the NFDI association (NFDI e.V.) (Deutsch: “Konsortium gemäß Satzung (KgS)”). In this role, NFDI4Energy participates in relevant decisions, e.g., on the further development of the NFDI, in the consortia assembly of the NFDI. Each institution in the KgS must formally mandate a voting representative.
The KgS includes all funded institutions but is not limited to them allowing a dynamic growth. It represents the NFDI4Energy network and has a long term perspective. Any institution which is member of the NFDI association can join the KgS. All institutions in our KgS are eligible for our flex projects.
In their two annual meetings, the KgS is informed on the progress of NFDI4Energy and discuss relevant topics for the further development of NFDI4Energy and its community.
The KgS elects a spokesperson and a deputy for a two-year term, ensuring continued leadership and representation.

Join the discussion and become a KgS member:
- You get a direct update from the work of NFDI4Energy and the NFDI as a whole
- You can directly add the requirements and needs of your institution to the further developments of NFDI4Energy

The Scientific and Industrial Advisory Board in NFDI4Energy
Scientific and Industrial Advisory Board-meetings (SAB and IAB) play complementary and essential roles in ensuring scientific excellence, practical relevance, and useful long-term impact in NFDI4Energy.
Both boards meet annually to assess progress, offer strategic feedback, and help guide future development. These meetings foster a productive exchange between academic and industrial stakeholders, promoting cross-sector collaboration and mutual learning.
Together, the SAB and IAB ensure that the service ecosystem is both scientifically sound and industry-aligned, supporting a research environment that is responsive, forward-looking, and impactful for the wider energy research and innovation community.
