Description

The Climate Policy Atlas is an open-data project providing high-resolution, curated information on energy and climate policies and targets. It is built on the Climate and Energy Policy Ontology (CEPO), a semantic framework that ensures consistent and comparable policy instrument definitions. The project offers detailed time-series data from 2000-2024, covering renewable electricity support instruments across EU countries and the UK, electric car support in select nations, and renewable/energy/emissions targets through 2050. The datasets are hosted on Zenodo, enabling easy access, version control, and reuse for empirical policy research. CEPO is designed to be expandable and interoperable with other policy databases like Climate Policy Radar, facilitating cross-dataset comparisons. The initiative was developed by the Sustainability Transition Policy group at Friedrich Alexander University in Nuremberg, Germany, with contributions from various collaborators and expert teams and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) through NFDI4Energy. The primary goal is to address gaps in energy data availability, making long-term, machine-readable policy data accessible for interdisciplinary energy research. Users can report errors or contribute additional data to improve the dataset’s completeness and accuracy.
