National and international networking

NFDI4Energy has taken strategic steps to strengthen its national and international engagement and align its activities with key national and European initiatives in research data management and energy systems research. NFDI4Energy prioritizes networking and dissemination, embedding its efforts within the German as well as the broader European energy systems research ecosystem.

NFDI4Energy actively participate in national initiates like the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) (Fachgruppe Energieinformatik), the dena Future Energy Lab and the Data Institute, Use Case Energy in particular.

International initiatives on NFDI4Energy includes the presentation of results at the General Assembly and the Research Infrastructure Automation Workshop hosted by European Projects like ERIGRID 2.0 and int:net and involvement in the ACM Special Interest Group on Energy Systems and Informatics (ACM SIGEnergy). These engagements not only disseminate our approach but also create valuable feedback loops between national developments and European strategies.

NFDI4Energy will continue to actively engage in international forums, especially EOSC-related events and projects like EVERSE, and align its service portfolio with European standards. NFDI4Energy contributes regularly to the EOSC Symposium through booths and poster presentations. While service development will be driven first by national coordination within the NFDI association, subsequent phases will ensure compatibility with EOSC activities, particularly concerning interoperability and service integration.

Collaboration in the NFDI

NFDI4Energy actively supports the NFDI-wide vision of OneNFDI. One essential building block for this is establishing foundational services (“Base Services”) that foster synergies beyond individual domains. OneNFDI describes a coherent, integrated ecosystem that delivers added value beyond the sum of its parts. NFDI comprises 26 consortia plus Base4NFDI that strive toward this common goal of OneNFDI.

In doing so, NFDI4Energy aims for collaboration across consortia: We are active contributors to Base4NFDI, especially to the Base services nfdi.software and TS4nfdi. Regular dialogue with the Data Stewards from Base4NFDI ensures that evolving user needs are addressed. We engage with consortia such as BERD and Text+. These efforts are aimed at leveraging results and addressing overlapping user needs.

Furthermore, NFDI4Energy actively contributes to strategic development and cross-consortial coordination through involvement in the Task Forces on Governance and Sustainability. This further ensures our voice in shaping long-term, community-driven research data infrastructure in Germany.

NFDI4Energy PhD network

The NFDI4Energy PhD Network aims to connect doctoral researchers working on NFDI4Energy-related topics and to foster exchange, collaboration, and mutual support. We offer several opportunities to engage and share knowledge within the community.

The NFDI4Energy PhD community provides various opportunities for connection, collaboration, and growth. Each year at the NFDI4Energy Conference, our PhD researchers have the option to come together for a dedicated workshop that provides space for personal exchange, peer learning, and inspiration. Topics are gathered and decided in advance through a dedicated Rocket.Chat channel, ensuring that the sessions reflect the community’s shared interests and research challenges. Our Rocket.Chat channel serves as a meeting point for NFDI4Energy PhDs. It’s a place to share literature, discuss research questions, exchange useful tools, and seek feedback from peers. If your institution is part of NFDI4Energy or any other NFDI Consortia, you are warmly invited to join the channel and become part of the conversation.
